The Black Sun of Hiroshima

The Black Sun of Hiroshima

Exclusively composed of archive footage, this Franco-Japanese documentary Looks back at the genesis of the atomic bomb under the unprecedented angle of the secret alliance passed between US military, scientific and industrialists. In 1944, Americans learn that the Nazi nuclear project has been abandoned for two years. The destruction of Hiroshima then becomes "a necessity" to justify expenses to the Congress and "expose to the world the overkill of the US arsenal". On August 6 and August 9, 1945, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were wiped off the map, killing 220,000 people. The government assured Congress and the people that the use of the A-bomb was a "necessary evil" that saved one million American soldiers without producing a lasting toxic discharge. The nuclear industry is launched.
